Alassio, which is slightly over one thousand years old, boasts its roots in the legend of Adelasia, daughter of Emperor Otto I, who, together with Aleramo, found shelter in the current territory of Alassio. The first settlements date back to the 10th century, when some families settled on the hill known as "Castlé" Madonna delle Grazie, which still preserves the most ancient coat of arms of Alassio. Afterwards, these families moved away from the hills and settled near the beach, thus creating the "Burgun Alaxii".
Il Muretto: located near the municipal building, it consists of tiles featuring autographs of many renowned figures in the fields of culture, sport, and entertainment, such as Hemingway, Coppi, Bartali, and the national football team.
Church of Santa Croce: Romanesque, founded by the Benedictine monks from the island of Gallinara in the 11th century. Additions were made in the 15th and 16th centuries. From the lookout situated in the adjacent park, it is possible to enjoy the incomparable view of the Baia del Sole.
Madonna della Guardia Sanctuary: it rises on Mount Tirasso and was built in 1200. Its current structure dates back to the 17th century, thanks to the devotion of our sailors and coral fishermen. It is surrounded by a park of 18,000 square metres. Church of Saint Ambrose: built in the second half of the 15th century, in Romanesque style, and later converted to Baroque at the beginning of the 18th century. The Renaissance facade was added in 1896. Inside, it features frescoes from the Genoese school of the 16th and 17th centuries.
Julia Augusta street: built in the 8th century B.C., after Emperor Augustus conquered Liguria and gave it its name. It is located between the Church of S. Croce and the start of Albenga’s town, stretching 4 km and ending at the monumental complex of Saint Martin. Some sections are original, and one can still see the ruins of Roman buildings and monumental tombs dating back to the end of the 1st century A.D.
